Bamiyan Alpine Ski Club

The Bamiyan Alpine Ski Club (BASC) was established in 2023 by a group of experienced local skiers to support the continuing development of skiing in Bamiyan. These skiers were active members of the ski community for a number of years and organised the Afghan Peaks ski races in 2022 and 2023. They have also been involved in producing wooden skis for children and training children to ski.

Bamiyan Alpine Ski Club Aims

  • Organising ski competitions
  • Provide ski training for the youth of Bamiyan
  • Manage donations of ski equipment and resources for the skiers of Bamiyan
  • Endeavour to secure training programs for skiers in Bamiyan who wish to become professional

Why Afghan Peaks supports Bamiyan Alpine Ski Club

The club is more than just about skiing, it is about supporting a sporting community in Bamiyan which has been active for over a decade. This community gives purpose and hope to the youth of the villages and valleys of Bamiyan. Wages in Afghanistan are extremely low and running the club costs money. The BASC organizes the ski race each year and also trains younger skiers. It also has costs to store and maintain the skis.
